In 2017, we were faced with a problem – we needed to create a promotional video but didn't have the budget to hire a video crew. So we decided to take matters into our own hands and shoot the video ourselves using a pro camera rig.
The camera rig we used was heavy and bulky – weighing in at 15lbs and costing over $8,000 USD. While the video quality was great, we knew there had to be a better solution. We experimented with smaller cameras and high-end smartphones, but encountered limitations such as restricted lens and microphone options, absence of auxiliary ports, inadequate lighting, the absence of an articulating screen, and subpar stabilization that fell short of the Steadicam quality we desired. Additionally, the tedious process of assembling and disassembling gears was a cumbersome aspect we felt compelled to eliminate.
Realizing the need for a better way to capture moments, we literally went through hell to created IDOLCAM – a camera that blends pro-level lens options and image quality in a compact action-cam design.
